There is going to be a delay between the signal coming from your DAW then the signal coming from total mix fx.hence the echo. If you are using speakers rather than headphones when listening to what you recorded.The issue causing the echo could also be causing you to think the quality is bad. You are hearing an echo because you are hearing the mic via your daw AND via total mix fx.
Sounds like you are having some monitoring issues. Or record something new and listen to it.
